I love getting the timing right in Dance Photography-just like in sports. Thought a few shots of Elke wouldn't be complained about. Regards, Ian

Here are a few shots from the day. I really miss shooting in raw. Backlighting and jpeg doesn't give flexibility to open up shadow. Anyway- a much appreciated time with Steve-a true pro.

Alan's critique.
#1 - Very nice portrait, love the look on the batter's face.
#2 - Nice play!, but, bad luck it didn't happened on your side of the diamond.
Would have been sweet to have some faces. Picture could have been helped by a tighter crop.
#3 - Nice classic feel, but again, tighter would have helped.
#4 - Nicely one while shooting under lensed. Picture lends itself to a creative crop by going up on the bottom and down on top.
#5 - Good job looking for a game telling image, the dejected Maple Leaf walking by the happy Statford players does that!

Sorry people, I've been burning the candle at both ends and haven't been by the blog for a while.
Here we go Wayne.
1, 2 & 3 - Not bad, I think that #2 is the winner, I like the uniqueness of #1. As for the third one, it needs a face.
#4 - One of the challenges of a long lens with a doubler is focusing, looks like you are a little back focused here. Try focusing on the pitcher and slowly moving the focus towards the batter chimping between frames to see where the focus is.
Also a wee bit more Depth of Field might have helped, again chimping to see if the fence you are shooting through is affecting the image.
#5 - Nice, good face on the pitcher, nice ball. The only thing might be to crop a little tighter. The white space above the trees is distracting.
#6 - A little too tight, would have liked to see the top of the helmet.
#7 - Good foul ball, only thing that would make it better is if you were on 1st base side, but, a lot of sports photography is luck.
#8 - Nice angle, but might have been more effective as a horizontal. Would have eliminated the fence up top, kept the pitcher's foot in frame and used the curve of the front of the mound to frame the shot.
#9 - Not a bad portrait.
#10 - nicer than #4, maybe a little tight on the catcher but the action is nice and compact. Good Angle!
#11 - I love this detail picture, Great find and well shot!
#12 - Nice picture, but be aware of lines, the fence in the background makes it look like the pitcher is throwing up hill.
#13 - I know what you are trying to do here. But think you are too tight. Too many awkward amputations on the pitcher. Might have worked better if you kept the mitt in the picture.
#14 - Lovely picture of the gent! Try cropping up from the bottom to just below the batter's feet. gives a better shape and enforces the baseball aspect.
#15 - Not bad, again watch that foot amputation.
#16 - Nice, great moment!!!
#17 - Nice moment but would have loved to see more bat.
#18 - Nice!
